I have tried to introduce chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches (or chipwhiches) here, but I have not been too successful. Let me rephrase that, I have not been successful at all, I have failed miserably. But, that's not what this is going to be about.
It's actually about The Federal Budget.
Yes, this is old news, but you know what? Not much has changed since 2007.
I ran into a video from Ben Cohen (from Ben & Jerry's) in which he used Oreo cookies to illustrate what the Federal Budget looked like. If you want to see it here it is:
However, what I found even more interesting was the back story on his back and forth with the owners of Oreo. I once tried to create a Baileys flavored Dulce de Leche but I was shot down by Baileys so I could relate.
I also thought it was great how he was going around making presentations with actual Oreos.
Looking around I saw that he even went on the Colbert Report.
Yeah, this is so 2007, but doesn't it say something that we are still doing more of the same?
Back then the Pentagon's budget was $420 billion and for 2010 it's up to $685.1 billion. To be fair, now it includes the two wars, but still it seems outrageous. Our defense budget is almost as much as the rest of the world's defense budget combined! Yeah, that includes China.
So Ben, thanks for the video and the short and sweet lessons on the Federal Budget.
If the Oreo people give you grief over the usage of their brand name, let's talk. I can use some help getting the locals to try chocolate chip ice cream sandwhiches.

Blackness
Okay, I have never been much of a joiner. I have never been much into politics and this year I have Fox Noise to blame as well as the past 8 years of a disastrous manhandling of the country by GWB for getting me all interested in what is going on.
But it´s not fair to be solely motivated by hatred. In fact, I am really liking the hope that I feel for my country and I am not alone. Jessica (high school friend of mine) wrote a great post today that mirrored much of what I feel.
Yanqui Mike has been writing great posts for a while now, and in his tireless efforts managed to organize Democrats Abroad here in Argentina providing me with an outlet for my hatred/hope. Now, thanks to him, I have picked a side.
I also love seeing all the sites that are out there keeping track of the shenanigans of not only fox noise but bullshit in general. Thanks Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Indecision 2008, Media Matters, Crooks and Liars, Pharyngula, and Huffington Post.
There are others, but I do have a life and can´t spend the whole day in front of a computer you know. I have to take over Argentina with cookies and brownies. Speaking of others though. I leave you with this very funny video.

The Robert Downey Jr. of Cookies

There have been rumors (old ones by now) flying around that Cookie Monster was either going to be replaced or dropped from Sesame Street altogether. There even was an online petition sent to PBS against this measure. He was also interviewed on NPR, and you can see the short 5 minute video where he reveals his favorite dirty word among other things as well, on a show titled In Character.
Here in Argentina not too many people know about Cookie Monster; however, this last video below was sent to me by a local Argentine who happens to love cookies. I am sure that if Cookie Monster ever got a hold of her home made cookies he would love them too. Hope you enjoy Cookie Monster's appearance on the Colbert Report as much as I did.
Thanks Marce.
