When I first came to Buenos Aires I naturally started to miss some things from home. Home made Chocolate Chip cookies was one, Biscotti another, and recently, on the savory side I have added Chicago style pizza and a Chicago Style Hot dog.
This last weekend I had the great privilege of trying Dan's home made Chicago Style pizza pictured below:
This pizza was not a stuffed pizza like you would find in this Wikipedia article on the subject; however, it had the crust done right; the sausage was homemade as well, and the combination of sausage, onions, and peppers took me back home. My mouth is watering again just thinking about it. Thank you Dan!
I have been able to do something about the cookies and the biscotti, now the hot dog I will leave for another post in the near future.

The Robert Downey Jr. of Cookies
There have been rumors (old ones by now) flying around that Cookie Monster was either going to be replaced or dropped from Sesame Street altogether. There even was an online petition sent to PBS against this measure. He was also interviewed on NPR, and you can see the short 5 minute video where he reveals his favorite dirty word among other things as well, on a show titled In Character.
Here in Argentina not too many people know about Cookie Monster; however, this last video below was sent to me by a local Argentine who happens to love cookies. I am sure that if Cookie Monster ever got a hold of her home made cookies he would love them too. Hope you enjoy Cookie Monster's appearance on the Colbert Report as much as I did.
Thanks Marce.

Obama in Spanish and Fox "News"
**The following is a post that I wrote for Democrats Abroad.
I found this video on a blog in Spanish called "Bloc de Periodistas" by Darío Gallo.
Snooping around I found that there are a whole bunch of these types of videos. Call me naive, unplugged from the reality of what is going on in the United States; but, really, has there ever been this type of attention on a presidential hopeful before?
Now the flip side to this positive attention. I have first-hand listened from some friends and family the lies that have been thrown out there by Fox News. This "news" program is so irresponsible. They have to constantly tell people that they are "fair and balanced" because that is exactly what they are not. Just place "un" in front of those two words and it begins to be a more realistic slogan for them. Try it, they are Unfair and Unbalanced. Doesn't that feel better? If you don´t believe me just start googling the subject after watching this video below and you will get a whole bunch of material.
As an added bonus I am including a link to a blog that tracks all the nonsense that Fox News dishes out. Part of their slogan is "We Watch Fox So You Dont Have To" brought to you by News Hounds. I am so glad they are sacrificing like that.

Vote For The Smart Guy This Time... Please
I was always the kind that shied away from groups and associations. I especially considered myself not very political. I would follow politics and I would vote, but I never considered myself either a Democrat, Republican or Libertarian.
I have been so disappointed and disenchanted with the US Government, specifically George W's administration, that he has made me run over and join the Democratic party. My own personal reasons for being so against him and what he has done are numerous and I could list them out, but then it would feel more like a rant on my part and quite boring. Let's just say I do have many reasons.
I also have my reasons for being hopeful of a better tomorrow. I hope my country decides, this time, to choose the smart guy, not the guy you could have a beer with. We already gave the job to a "regular Joe" TWICE and that turned out to be a disaster. I would much rather have a guy who is much smarter than me in that oval office than a guy who didn't know squat about Iraq before he invaded it for example.
Is this a case of deja-vu? We have McCain making Bush type mistakes:
“We continue to be concerned about Iranian taking Al Qaeda into Iran, training them and sending them back,’’ Mr. McCain said at the news conference. Asked about that statement, Mr. McCain said: “Well, it’s common knowledge and has been reported in the media that Al Qaeda is going back into Iran and receiving training and are coming back into Iraq from Iran. That’s well known. And it’s unfortunate.”Al Qaeda is Sunni and it would be a stretch to have Iran (they are shia) friendly with a Sunni group. He didn't make this mistake just once either.
So if you are an American citizen, or you know of any in Buenos Aires, please tell them to go out and please vote for the Democrat or at least just vote. In fact, they can go to Sir Will's Pub in micro-centro every Thursday starting at 7pm and Democrat's Abroad will help you in registering to vote. We could also talk politics over a beer or two.
Many thanks to Yanqui Mike for some of these links, banners, and for taking the lead in creating Democrats Abroad Argentina!

- Av. Cordoba 4856
- Honduras 4928
- Dorrego 864.

Seven Days in Kenya
This has nothing to do with Argentina--for now.
A very dear friend of mine just wrote an article for EbonyJet.com and I am so proud of her.
She spent 7 wonderful days in Kenya (without any violence), and she describes her trip in this article. Reading this article made me realize how much fun it would have been to have shared the trip with her, except for the part about eating flies and rubbing lelechwa leaves on you for their deodorant properties.
These are some of the pictures she took on her trip.
Next stop Buenos Aires, Argentina, or so she tells me.
